The Promise of Resveratrol
There has been much research over the last several years concerning the ingredient in wine called
resveratrol. It has shown great promise in laboratory studies with mice
and in ongoing human clinical trials indicating it has the future
promise of treating several human diseases related to aging.
The current leader in aging research is
Dr. David Sinclair, co-director and founder of the
anti-aging laboratory at the Harvard University School of Medicine.
Dr. Sinclair first uncovered resveratrol's genetic mechanism in 2003 while conducting anti-aging research. The current dialog
over resveratrol has caught the attention of scientists who conduct research on the aging process, several
of whom are already taking resveratrol. Dr. Sinclair has been taking resveratrol supplements for five years
and has said his parents and half the members of his laboratory do the same. So does Dr. Tomas Prolla at the
University of Wisconsin
, who said, "The fact that investigators in the field are taking it is a good sign there is something
there."
Dr. Sinclair recently talked with Barbara Walters on ABC's 20/20 about his findings on the promising
benefits of resveratrol. Here is a segment of that broadcast:

There IS a Viable Resveratrol Supplement!
We have great news for you now that
you're convinced there's no feasible way of obtaining enough
resveratrol in your daily diet due to the large quantities of
wine or resveratrol-containing foods that would have to be
consumed.
The answer is a supplement from the
#1 natural nutritional company in the U.S. You may recall
Dr. David
Sinclair who was introduced at the beginning of our
discussion of resveratrol. He is the Harvard Medical School
researcher who first uncovered resveratrol's anti-aging
mechanism in 2003. Dr.
Sinclair has been extremely active in continuing studies into
the practical uses of resveratrol in helping consumers attain
it's benefits.
You might also recall that SmithGlaxoKline purchased Sirtris, the
pharmacuetical company that Dr. Sinclair helped co-found to
research and develop medicines that could provide the benefits
of resveratrol. Since the sale of Sirtris, Dr. Sinclair has been
exploring other avenues for realizing the benefits of
resveratrol.
In a landmark collaboration, Dr.
Sinclair has teamed with the researchers and doctors at our
country's leading nutritional company to develop an all natural
product that provides the high potency levels of resveratrol that
are required to realize its benefits. Only this company has the resources and the level of
knowledge required to produce an all natural resveratrol
supplement containing the beneficial blend of resveratrol. This
supplement
is the most complex product ever produced by our company.

Why Should You Consider Taking Resveratrol?
So now you might be saying "Maybe I should I include resveratrol in my daily diet."
You've already been hearing for a number years now that drinking
red wine appears to be good for your health. In the research
articles we've posted to this site, that advice on drinking red
wine is clearly backed up by numerous scientific studies showing
resveratrol has the promise of treating human diseases of aging
that range from Obesity to Cancer. It would seem to be a
"no-brainer" to decide to drink red wine or to eat foods
containing resveratrol (such as dark grapes or peanuts)
to minimize or avoid the many age-related diseases that
resveratrol potentially can treat.
However, the scientific studies clearly show that large
amounts of wine or foods containing resveratrol must be
consumed to realize the potential benefits that were
demonstrated in those studies. In order to obtain the same level
dosages that were utilized in the research studies, a person
would have to drink upwards of 100 glasses of wine per day to
obtain the same amount of resveratrol that was used in the
studies.
Obviously, drinking 100 glasses of wine per day is not
advisable. Also, an enormous number of grapes,
peanuts, etc. would have to to be eaten to obtain this level of dosage of resveratrol.
Thus it would appear the promise of resveratrol is
not, practically speaking, attainable.
The Benefits of Resveratrol
You may now be thinking "So that's why so many people are interested in the fact that grapes and red wine have resveratrol!"
Another argument for that interest is that researchers at Zhejiang University in China investigated the effect of injections of resveratrol
on the central regulation of blood pressure, heart rate, and renal sympathetic nerve activity in
animals. Their results suggest that resveratrol powerfully inhibits blood pressure, heart rate,
and renal sympathetic nerve activity. This study has tremendous implications for anti-aging
therapies.
One does not have look far on the Internet for scores of
articles, all touting the research findings so far that indicate
resveratrol may be able to treat the following diseases related
to aging in humans:
- Heart Disease
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Osteoporosis
- Obesity
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Cataracts
- Other diseases related to aging
For example, there are numerous articles on WebMD.com
alone that discuss the various possible benefits of
resveratrol in humans (
see
WebMD.com sidebar.)
There are also numerous other research studies about the
potential benefits of resveratrol that have been documented on
the Internet (
see
Additional Resveratrol Research Studies sidebar.)
These are technical medical research studies that indicate the
promise resveratrol holds in the treatment of many different
age-related diseases.
